Out of your depth
Water now pushes back. The deeper you wade, the slower you get, and where your feet lose the ground you swim.

Last time the river and the lake only splashed under your feet. Now they get in your way.

Wading
Water slows you down by how deep it is. A puddle or an ankle-deep edge costs nothing, at knee height you are down to about two thirds of your walking speed, up to the hips to less than half. Sprinting still works, but it wears you out up to twice as fast in deep water. Other players move by the same rules, so crossing a river in a hurry is a real decision.
The steps change with the depth too: small splashes in the shallows, a heavy wading sound at knee height and a slow slosh when you are up to your hips. Jump or fall into deep water and you hear it go in.
Swimming
Where your feet lose the ground, you swim. Standing still you tread water, head and shoulders above the surface; moving, you swim along it and ride the waves of the lake. Swimming is no rest: stamina only comes back once you stand on solid ground again. Where the bottom rises, you find your feet and wade out.
On the way the survivor also learned to lift his head. His face used to ignore every turn of the head in his animations, so he stared at the lake bed while swimming. That fix reaches beyond the water.
Not yet
Walking through water still uses the normal walk, which looks too light for it; a proper wading animation is still missing. Diving, drowning and drinking from the lake are not in yet either.
