What you leave behind
Dying no longer wipes what you carried. It stays behind in a bag for anyone to search, and you start over with almost nothing.

Until now, dying meant everything you carried was simply gone. Now it stays where you fell.

The bag
When you die, everything you carried goes into a bag on the ground under your body: your backpack, your hotbar and whatever you held in your hand, each item in the condition it was in. If you die while swimming, the bag floats on the water.
The bag carries your name, and anyone can search it: you, if you make it back in time, a friend who saw you go down, or a stranger who heard the fight. It stays for 30 minutes, or until it has been emptied. A restart does not change that: the bag and its remaining time are kept in the save.

Starting over
You come back at one of several places on the map, picked at random, so you cannot count on waking up next to your bag. You do not come back empty-handed, but close: two cloth strips, a water bottle that is already half empty and an energy bar. No weapon, no tools.
Not yet
The bag is a placeholder model and hard to spot in tall grass. It still sounds like opening a crate.
